This summer has been very full. There has been a lot of activity, a lot of wonderful experiences, a lot of feelings, a lot of energy in my bounding 5 year old daughter, and not always a lot of quiet space to simply be. I’ve been thinking about presence- how simple it sounds, and how difficult it can sometimes be to actually inhabit. There are so many reasons to feel tired these days, and I’ve noticed how easily that tiredness can pull me away from myself, or make it harder to be fully present with the people around me. So often I find myself moving through the day already thinking about what comes next, rather than really being where I am. And then there is creativity and creative expression. Creating can inspire presence as an invitation to notice what arises and follow even a small thread of curiosity to see where it leads. There’s a particular kind of momentum that happens when I’m following something that feels alive and aligned. I’ve been in a deep dive with cyanotypes these past few months- exploring and playing with new techniques, sharing this process that I love so much through facilitating workshops, printing on clothing and getting ready for the upcoming markets where I’ll be sharing my work. I find myself absorbed in the process, following my curiosity from one thing to the next, and feeling excited to share what has been bringing me alive. Within my creative process I can feel my sense of presence return when I’m engaged in something that feels deeply my own. I inhabit my life and purpose a little more fully. Something in me, some deep alignment, really turns on when I’m in my studio. A recognition, like meeting with an old friend. Perhaps this is one of the gifts of creativity: it gives us a way back to ourselves, and amplifies our experience. I’m grateful to be finding my way back, moment by moment, through making, gathering, and sharing — and I’m looking forward to connecting with many of you in the coming weeks through the events below, including an exciting new creative day-long retreat offering!
*For those of you interested in joining one of my standard collage workshops, the next one will be Sunday, November 8, from 10-1:30pm. You can register for this at the bottom of my Workshops page.* Thanks for taking the time to read a bit about what I’ve been up to and the latest offerings I’m excited to share. Hope to be with you in meaningful
and inspired ways, soon. May you find your own creative spark, and follow its lead to welcome surprises! In joy & emergence, Lindsay
