Photography has been a love of mine for so much of my life. I have always held a curiosity and fascination around alternative process techniques. Creating cyanotypes has held a role of joyful permission with engaging what I'm drawn to creating. I see printing possibilities everywhere I go. I have fallen in love with the process. The surprises with every exposure, the variations with the angle of the sun and the state of the various plants I harvest, my relationship with the plants and where they’re from, the gorgeous blue that magically appears when water meets the surface of whatever material I’ve used to make the print on. I can’t get enough, it’s so fun! ~ Cyanotype is an old photographic process that produces a distinctive cyan-blue print. It works by using a combination of light-sensitive iron salts on a surface, which react to UV light and turn a Prussian blue color when washed with water. Every print is 100% unique and cannot be recreated exactly as it is because the sun and the plants are always changing. Even when working with negatives to make a print, there are always variations to how the image translates. Each print is its own celebration of telling a story through nature, while they are tributes to joy and wonder. ~ I’ve begun creating a body of cyanotype work, some of which will be featured in a show I’ll be in, here in Lyons where I live, in early 2027. I’ve also greatly enjoyed making wearable and usable art! From t-shirts and sweatshirts, to throw pillows, and pouches that are perfect for holding so many things, there are so many ways to infuse daily living with art!
